Hyperbolic Space
Radial lines, suitably parameterized, are geodesics, but notice that the distance from the origin to the (Euclidean) unit sphere is infinite. This model makes it intuitively clear that the boundary at infinity of hyperbolic space is Sn−1. Hyperbolic space together with its boundary at infinity has the topology of a closed ball, and isometries of hyperbolic space extend uniquely to a homeomorphi...
متن کاملStatics and the Moduli Space of Triangles
The variance of a weighted collection of points is used to prove classical theorems of geometry concerning homogeneous quadratic functions of length (Apollonius, Feuerbach, Ptolemy, Stewart) and to deduce some of the theory of major triangle centers. We also show how a formula for the distance of the incenter to the reflection of the centroid in the nine-point center enables one to simplify Eul...
متن کاملUniversal Approximator Property of the Space of Hyperbolic Tangent Functions
In this paper, first the space of hyperbolic tangent functions is introduced and then the universal approximator property of this space is proved. In fact, by using this space, any nonlinear continuous function can be uniformly approximated with any degree of accuracy. Also, as an application, this space of functions is utilized to design feedback control for a nonlinear dynamical system.
متن کاملSpace-Time Discretization of Hyperbolic Equations with Variable Collocation Points
In the field of scalar hyperbolic equations, we take into consideration the idea of building numerical schemes using two grids: the first one to represent the solution and the second one to collocate the equation. This approach is based on the experience already gained in the approximation of boundaryvalue elliptic-type problems (see for instance [1]), as well as in the field of functional ot i...
متن کاملSpace-time Finite Element Methods for Second-order Hyperbolic Equations*
Space-time finite element methods are presented to accurately solve elastodynamics problems that include sharp gradients due to propagating waves. The new methodology involves finite element discretization of the time domain as well as the usual finite element discretization of the spatial domain. Linear stabilizing mechanisms are included which do not degrade the accuracy of the space-time fin...
